Below, I’ll share detailed descriptions and tips for each part of our Chamonix travel itinerary.
Chamonix is a very beautiful city in France with a view of the Alps.
I long to return…
Our journey took us from Lyon (starting directly from the airport) to Annecy, followed by a two-night stay in Chamonix, a night in Lyon, and then five nights in Paris.
Although I’ve visited France three or four times, it was my first time in southeastern France. We did a day trip to Annecy, spent two nights in Chamonix, one night in Lyon, and then focused on Paris.
If you want to know more about Annecy itinerary & places to visit, check out our post below!
Main Chamonix Travel Itinerary

Chamonix is so beautiful, and there is so much to do, that I recommend a minimum of two nights. (weather is important though)
Chamonix Travel Tips: Day 1
Journey from Annecy to Chamonix (Rental Car)
After our day trip to Annecy, we headed to Chamonix by rental car. The drive took about an hour and a half, but the road was easy to navigate and the scenery was breathtaking. The picturesque landscapes made the journey a delight.
Evening at Le Bistrot des Cristalliers
Our first evening in Chamonix was spent at Le Bistrot des Cristalliers, a charming wine bar specializing in natural wines.
- Location: Le Bistrot des Cristalliers (Google map Link)
– 109 Rue des Moulins, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France - Highlights:
- Only serves natural wines
- Discovered through Google Maps based on excellent reviews
- Friendly owner, fluent in English
- Delicious cheese platter that pairs perfectly with the wine
We highly recommend visiting this wine bar for its superb wine recommendations and warm hospitality.
Accommodation for Chamonix travel: Héliopic Hotel & Spa
We stayed at Héliopic Hotel & Spa, an incredible place offering luxurious comfort.
The hotel was so comfortable and the views were great, but the best part was that it was right in front of the Egirimidi Observatory, which I was able to check out regularly.
I’ll post more details in a separate post.
Chamonix Travel Tips: Day 2
Morning: Hotel Breakfast and Spa
We started our day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel, followed by a relaxing spa session. The hotel’s amenities were top-notch, providing a perfect start to the day.
Lunch at Pocoloco Burger
Next, we headed to Pocoloco Burger. It was not a typical burger, it was special and delicious.
- Highlights:
- Unique flavor
- Unusual but delicious burger buns
- Highly recommended to try, even as takeout if you’re short on time
- The fries were exceptionally tasty too
Afternoon: Aiguille du Midi Viewpoint
Our next destination was the Aiguille du Midi viewpoint.
If the weather is bad, you won’t get the views you expect, but I still think it’s a must-visit and highly recommend it.
If you’re short on time or the weather is bad, it’s a challenge, but if you have enough time and the weather is good, we recommend getting the Mont Blanc Multipass (Unlimited Pass) (which includes the Aiguillimidi viewpoint).
